Thinking about becoming a medical assistant? Medical Assistant careers are fast growing and becoming popular with many men and women. This job is a respected job in the community and is well recognized across doctor offices and practitioners. Medical assistants help doctors in their office and are responsible for filing, preparing patients for x rays, explaining procedures, and recording vital signs. Do you have what it takes to be a medical assistant? Here are some essentials to becoming a medical assistant.

  • Must have strong organizational skills – You must be able to quickly order your tasks, organize your surrounding area and be quick to offer help.
  • Must have strong communication skills – Since you will be mostly dealing with patients you must have good oral and written skills. Communicating is crucial and being able to communicate effectively is an asset.
  • Have some customer service experience – Being a medical assistant means working around people and servicing people. Having a strong customer service background will give you an edge to becoming a medical assistant.

A Medical Assistant program is a 2 year program which will attain you a certificate or associates degree depending on what school you study at. You must have a high school diploma or equivalent. Volunteer work is always encouraged and will help you become familiar in the health care field.

Once you are accepted into the program your training will include lap techniques, medical terminology, medical office procedures and clinical procedures.

Once you complete your 2 year program expect an annual salary of $28,000.
